Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How long does it take to get a puppy?

This is a hard question to answer because it is determined on several factors. Do you want a black/tan or harlequin? Boy or girl? Etc. What are you wanting out of a dog? Availability between waitlist demand and what the litters produce…You can expect a decent amount of time to pass before you end up with a puppy. Depending on your situation, it can be as soon as a couple of months to as long as a few years.

  2. Do I get to pick my own puppy out?

    Short answer: No.

I, as a breeder, see these puppies day in and out for weeks, meaning I know their personalities, what strengths they have for different sports, etc. and will pick out the best dog for you personally.

  3. Do I have to show the dog/ do sports?

I encourage everyone with a fully registered dog to show in the ring. (Limited Registration dogs are not qualified to show). As a breeder and trainer, I want you to build a relationship with your dog and have goals for you both. Sports/Showing is a great way to do this. I want people to experience the joy that comes from working toward a goal and accomplishing it together. We take great pride in our dogs earning titles and the public image.

    1. Owner Quote: “I was interested in an active companion & dabbling in agility. I was intimidated to inquire because I saw all the Instagram and Facebook beaucerons doing ALL the things. I already experienced the intro to dog sports (via NADAC agility when I was 11) so that part wasn’t a big issue. 4 years after getting Pistol he’s got half a can of alphabet soup after his name (something I didn’t intend on initially) and I want to do more. I don’t really have an answer other than once I saw the bond with Pistol start, I wanted to see how far we could take it. It’s a partnership, and I want to see how far he can push me to do better when I’m seeing how far I can take him.”

  4. Do Beaucerons have an “off switch” and what is their drive like?

Yes, but like anything good in life- you must work for what you want. You have to teach your dog what is right and wrong. Beaucerons are eager to please, have intense focus, confident, patient, gentle, protective, and so much more. Each dog differs, but you can expect to have a dog who is wanting to learn and you’ll be amazed at how versatile these dogs are.

  5. Are they good service dog candidates?

Yes, we have several dogs who have trained to be service dogs. Please let me know if you are looking for your next service dog prospect.

  6. Double dew claws?

The Beauceron is known for it’s double dew claws on their back feet. It is a standard in the breed and it is thought to be due to their herding history.

  7. How big do they get?

    They range from 70-110 pounds.

  8. Temperament: are they easy to train? Family Friendly? Protective?

How we would describe beaucerons: Confident, stable, healthy, eager to learn and please dogs. Excellent family companions. Patient, gentle, and protective of young/elderly family members.

  9. Are there any known health issues with the breed?

AKC Site: “Responsible breeders will screen their breeding stock health conditions such as hip dysplasia, heart disease, eye problems, and allergies. “ We health test all our dogs before we even consider them for breeding. I require a $750 deposit that I will hold for your dogs health testing at the age of 2.

  10. How long do they live for?

10 to 12 years on average. **AKC statistics
