Tulum

CH Tulum de la Plaine Royale, CSAU
Cotation 4 — France

French selection, American championship, and distinguished character

Tulum brings together an exceptional combination of French selection, American championship achievement, and recognition for temperament.

We imported this special boy from France in 2026, directly from his breeder and our dear friend, Mr. Florent Rapicault. Florent serves as a character judge for the French Beauceron club, evaluating the temperament and behavior that are essential to the breed’s identity. The club’s published event materials identify him specifically in that judging role.

Bringing Tulum into JDV represents a relationship built on friendship, trust, and a shared commitment to the complete Beauceron.

Cotation 4 — Recommandé: France’s highest selection rating based on the dog’s own evaluation

“Recommandé” means recommended. This distinction involves considerably more than a favorable appearance in the show ring.

The French selection framework combines demanding breed evaluation with character assessment, required hip-screening results, genetic identification, a group gunshot assessment, and final selection at the Nationale d’Élevage. The published framework also provides specified working-performance alternatives for part of the qualification pathway.

Cotation 4 is the highest selection level based on the individual dog’s own qualifications. Cotations 5 and 6 add recognition through the demonstrated quality of offspring. That distinction makes the meaning of Tulum’s rating clear: he achieved France’s highest individual selection tier.

CH — AKC Champion

After earning his French recommendation, Tulum also earned his American Kennel Club championship. This required 15 championship points, including two major wins under different judges and recognition from at least a third judge.

His American championship adds another body of evaluation to his French credentials. He has been recognized through two distinct systems, on two continents: France’s breed-selection process and American conformation competition.

CSAU — French certification of sociability and aptitude for work

The Certificat de Sociabilité et d’Aptitude à l’Utilisation evaluates sociability, stability, and basic control. It includes responses to unfamiliar people, handling, other dogs, noise, and the handler’s absence, together with basic obedience exercises.

It provides formal evidence of the dog’s behavior during that evaluation—a meaningful foundation for a breed expected to combine power and confidence with self-control.

Best Temperament — American Journée du Beauceron

Tulum added another special distinction when he was awarded Best Temperament at the 2026 WBA Journée in California.

For us, this recognition carries particular weight. Character is central to the Beauceron: the confidence to meet the world, the composure to assess it, and the ability to remain connected to a trusted person. Tulum’s award adds American recognition of temperament to his French recommendation and AKC championship.

A remarkable family legacy: two Challenge Montenot winners

Tulum’s dam, CH Oups des Gardiens d’Apollinaire, and his maternal grandsire, CH Jhetro des Feux de l’Ange, both won the Challenge Montenot at the French Nationale d’Élevage under Florent’s ownership: Jhetro in 2021, followed by Oups in 2026. The French breed club’s results document both wins.

The Nationale d’Élevage is the breed’s national specialty in its country of origin. The Challenge Montenot is among the Beauceron world’s most coveted distinctions, identifying the best Beauceron of that national event. To see it earned by both Tulum’s mother and her father gives his pedigree a particularly meaningful continuity of achievement.

Working ability across generations

Florent also earned the French Ring Brevet with both Oups and Jhetro, demonstrating their working ability alongside their exceptional show accomplishments. The Brevet is the entry qualification in French Ring, testing obedience and controlled protection work. It requires courage, responsiveness, and disciplined teamwork.

Tulum shows the drive and working potential that I believe could carry him toward earning this qualification as well. He has not yet earned a French Ring Brevet; developing that potential would require dedicated training and successful performance in an official trial.

For me, this working heritage adds depth to his pedigree: generations recognized for their beauty and breed character, with demonstrated ability to perform demanding work.

Tulum carries his own accomplishments alongside this remarkable family history. His French recommendation, American championship, and Best Temperament recognition express the combination we value so deeply: breed identity, physical quality, and character worthy of preservation.

Emma Borger & Ube

Emma Borger has learned, trained, and succeeded across an impressive range of activities with Ube, her first Beauceron. Moving between the show ring, Rally, agility, and practical skills takes adaptability and consistent work. I am proud of Emma’s willingness to try, learn, and give Ube opportunities to develop.

GCHB is Bronze Grand Champion, recognizing 100 cumulative Grand Championship points. RE requires three qualifying Rally Excellent courses, working off leash through signed exercises. OA — Open Agility requires three qualifying Open Standard runs on a timed obstacle course, progressing beyond Novice. NF — Novice FAST requires three qualifying runs in a different agility class, combining point-earning obstacles with a required distance-handling challenge.

FDC requires two successful Farm Dog tests under different judges. BCAT represents 150 Fast CAT points. CGCA recognizes advanced community manners; TKI adds ten Intermediate tricks after Novice. FTN requires two qualifying Fetch Novice tests of retrieving and control. These are distinct accomplishments, earned through a partnership that keeps growing.
